Core and drills session by Sam Ayers
I was lucky enough to be invited to join Broughton’s Ladies running group for a session from Sam Ayers. She is an England Athletics “flying coach” and L3 Endurance coach.
This was one of the best coach education, and coaching sessions I have been to and I hope that she can do more for us. Read more

The Plank
This post came through from the Sports Injury Bulletin. It discusses the plank exercise and the pros and cons of it.
I tend to use the plank in sessions I design as it is a relatively easy exercise to explain and a powerful core stability tool. Read more

Sports Science
In my relentless drive to try to understand about energy systems, running style etc. I stumbled across this site http://www.sportsscientists.com/. Its a blog from a couple of Sports Scientists who did their research for Professor Noakes in South Africa.
They have some interesting articles of running economy, barefoot running and other issues. Read more
Athletics Endurance Day
I spent Saturday 19th March 2011 in Carlisle on a UKAthletics Endurance day, tutor Stephen Pearson from Horwich RMI.
We covered a pretty wide range of topics. The one that I found most thought provoking was the idea that you should link all training sessions to one of the three energy systems. Read more

Glad you managed to find this blog.
I’m planning to use this to keep a track of things that I do that are related to coaching. I coach orienteering, fell-running and other running activities. I have coaching qualifications in all of these (L2 for Fell running and S&C and old L3 for Orienteering), but I am more practised in some areas than others. Read more
