This week we were in the South end of the Dockney Parrock area (Old Hall Farm). The plan was to do some more race style training. After the previous loop session in the Big Field I decided to use courses with some Phi loops. There were three different courses, each with a control before the Phi loop. We split the kids into evenly matched pairs and set them off on different loops racing head to head. Those that wanted to just do some orienteering were allowed to choose a course and run round.
This worked quite well as a session with some close finishes. It does not give the same level of pressure as Trains. Perhaps a larger mass start would be better, with 4 people starting together, not knowing which gaffle they had?
